Georgia Cyber Academy officially started as a standalone charter school as of the 2014-2015 school year. This was the first year for the independent Georgia Cyber Academy Board governing the school and for official recognition from the State of Georgia as a standalone school and Local Education Agency (LEA). In addition to the launch as a new school, GCA hired a new High School Principal and pioneered a new instructional model and grading policy for the 2014-2015 school year, never before implemented in the state of Georgia.
Prior to the 2014-2015 school year, Georgia Cyber Academy was a program of the Odyssey School, a standalone charter school in Newnan, GA, which does not offer High School grades, and was overseen by their “Brick & Mortar” focused Board of Directors for the local school. As all of GCA’s state accountability and assessment data starts new with the 2014-2015 school year (and earlier data remains with Odyssey School), our new CEEB code allows us to accurately and consistently reflect our Educational Testing Service (ETS) testing data as well.
