Two days until the winter break! Our students are knee-deep in assignments and interim assessment three (IA3) this week. While the first semester closes December 18, 2015, our scholars have until January 3, 2016 at 11:59 pm to complete all assignments and IA 3. I encourage all students to finish strong! It’s not too late! Mr. Thomson's video is a hilarious explanation of the semester grading system. We want students to fully understand the implications of a failing first semester grade. While we do offer credit recovery programming, spots may be limited and it can be difficult –but not impossible – for students to manage credit recovery requirements and a full load of classes. The best approach is to work through winter break to complete all assignments to feel that great sense of accomplishment once all courses are complete. It is so worth the sacrifice! .
We are excited to report that all courses outsourced to the IST program will be taught in house at GCA next semester! Students enrolled in these courses will see a new name in the OHS for the second semester of the current IST course. We may still access IST options for credit recovery based on student need.
Our school will be closed for winter break December 21, 2015 – January 1, 2016. Second semester courses will be available January 5, 2016 so feel free to jump in and get started with a fresh perspective and a positive outlook for the New Year. Please review the first week of school outline below:
January 5 – 6, 2016 – Students will receive orientation session (course overviews) invites from your teachers. Sessions will occur during regularly scheduled course times and include a review of the following:
- Syllabi and course expectations
- Semester grading structure
- Use of the class plan and calendar within the OHS
- Q & A
January 7, 2016 – Teachers will participate in Data Day. Students should complete assignments within the OHS. Review the class plan and calendar for additional details.
January 8, 2016 – Students will receive an invite to teacher open office sessions during the WIN session time slot. Teachers will be happy to address questions during this time.
We hope you enjoy the winter break and take advantage of the opportunity to catch up and pass all courses. The break officially starts Friday, December 18th at 4:00 p.m. Keep working!
